I note in TCDS A706 for the F24 which includes the UC61K that the Gross weight is is limited to 2550lbs. but that the performance tables at the back of the 'Pilots Operating Instructions' for the UC61K show figures for 2882lbs.
I cannot find any other reference to this higher military gross weight. Does anyone know where I might find a more definitive statement? The flexibility offered by going beyond 2550lbs could be useful and keep things legal.

The TCDS A-706 is for the Civilian version of the F-24. The US Mil did not need it since they deliver by Mil Spec.
Updates to the TCDS included the UC-61 to support the civilianized UC-61s.
In the US, the FAA has repeatedly denied the increase in gross weight to 2882 lbs when the Cont 220 or the Jake 755 has been installed via STC or FAA one time field 377. Most F-24s have the light universal joints. Will it haul the extra weight with the bigger engines? Yes it will. Is it hard on the gear? Yes, especially in rough field operations. I have attached two pics that show the light and heavy joints. Karl Saenger has heavy on the bird in Switzerland. His was a UC-61. I don’t know if all UC-61s had the heavy joints. I have never seen a set of heavy joints in person.
If you notice, the gross weight is allowed for the F-24 on floats. This is for the extra weight of the floats. Also no strain gear since it is removed. The airframe structure will handle the loads.
Your CAA may be more receptive than our FAA on this matter.

The TCDS A-706 is for the Civilian version of the F-24. The US Mil did not need it since they deliver by Mil Spec.
Updates to the TCDS included the UC-61 to support the civilianized UC-61s.
In the US, the FAA has repeatedly denied the increase in gross weight to 2882 lbs when the Cont 220 or the Jake 755 has been installed via STC or FAA one time field 377. Most F-24s have the light universal joints. Will it haul the extra weight with the bigger engines? Yes it will. Is it hard on the gear? Yes, especially in rough field operations. I have attached two pics that show the light and heavy joints. Karl Saenger has heavy on the bird in Switzerland. His was a UC-61. I don’t know if all UC-61s had the heavy joints. I have never seen a set of heavy joints in person.
If you notice, the gross weight is allowed for the F-24 on floats. This is for the extra weight of the floats. Also no strain gear since it is removed. The airframe structure will handle the loads.
Your CAA may be more receptive than our FAA on this matter.

I cannot find any other reference to this higher military gross weight. Does anyone know where I might find a more definitive statement? The flexibility offered by going beyond 2550lbs could be useful and keep things legal.

The TCDS A-706 is for the Civilian version of the F-24. The US Mil did not need it since they deliver by Mil Spec.
Updates to the TCDS included the UC-61 to support the civilianized UC-61s.
In the US, the FAA has repeatedly denied the increase in gross weight to 2882 lbs when the Cont 220 or the Jake 755 has been installed via STC or FAA one time field 377. Most F-24s have the light universal joints. Will it haul the extra weight with the bigger engines? Yes it will. Is it hard on the gear? Yes, especially in rough field operations. I have attached two pics that show the light and heavy joints. Karl Saenger has heavy on the bird in Switzerland. His was a UC-61. I don’t know if all UC-61s had the heavy joints. I have never seen a set of heavy joints in person.
If you notice, the gross weight is allowed for the F-24 on floats. This is for the extra weight of the floats. Also no strain gear since it is removed. The airframe structure will handle the loads.
Your CAA may be more receptive than our FAA on this matter.

I note in TCDS A706 for the F24 which includes the UC61K that the Gross weight is is limited to 2550lbs. but that the performance tables at the back of the 'Pilots Operating Instructions' for the UC61K show figures for 2882lbs.
I cannot find any other reference to this higher military gross weight. Does anyone know where I might find a more definitive statement? The flexibility offered by going beyond 2550lbs could be useful and keep things legal.
