Re: F24R46 Cockpit floor

'Folks,

I have built a new Centre Floor (under the pilots'seats) as per drawing 41484 on the CD ROM as one piece - the drawing is not that clear and I can not see any thing that indicates it is other than one piece.

The old floor was cut into 2 halves and was a piece of cake to put in and take out. The service manual is vague on the matter and only mentions removing screws etc. and infers that it is one bit.

If there is anyone out there who is good at puzzles and has managed to install the centre floor in one piece I would be very happy to hear how it is done. Otherwise I'll cut it in half and make life easy for myself. I don' want to do that if there is a way of doing it.

My 24R46 and the 24W40 have it in two sections. Split just in front of the
front seats.

'Frank:

We just made new floorboards for my 1946 F-24R and ran across the
same ambiguity in the drawings as you did. The old floorboard (nasty
and definitely not original) was in two peices so we built the new
one in two peices, as well. Easy to install and remove and no one
will know the difference once it is covered in carpet.

'When I took my Fairchild apart, I did have a one piece floor in the area
under the front seats. I could have put it back in the original condition,
but with the fabric in place, I wouldn't be able to remove it, ever.

I will take a look later this morning, but I am sure that I made the cut
under the pilots seat. I made a splice joint that looked like what was
done on the extreme front three pieced (around the rudder pedals). I used
some Rivnuts on the tabs that comes from the longerons, versus more standard
nuts and bolts. Tinnermans would work well also.
