Good Morning! I am a new member to this forum. I purchased PT 19 N60109 in October 2017. I have tried to remove the propeller to send to Sensenich for balancing and refinishing. I removed the clevis pin from the large nut and removed the prop nut using a 4' 7/8" breaker bar, (no issues). However, at this point I am unable to determine my next step. I have read other comments regarding prop removal but am confused how to proceed. I have a number of service manuals relating to the PT, but cannot reference any step instructions or tutorials on this subject. I have read, on this Forum, that by removing the large prop nut the prop should back away and off the prop shaft, is this correct? I removed the large prop nut, the prop hub did not budge. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Re: PT 19 Propeller Removal
'If the nut didn't pull the prop hub off the shaft that means it doesn't have the snap ring installed that goes in the groove on the nut and in the hub. Not an issue other than it does help in removal.
My first PT came that way and I ended up, eventually finding and installing a snap ring. But for the first prop removal I recall we just worked the prop off by wiggling each prop end to free the hub on the splines.

Thanks for the explanation. It is starting to make sense to me. Do you happen to have a source/AN # for snap ring?

I think I have the specs for all the hubs, cones, spacers, nuts and snap rings on my computer at work. I'll check tonight when I get in and can post the info in the morning when I get home.

'Mike:
If you had a snap rin, that holds the prop nut in the hub. Turning the nut to loosen it then acts like a pully puller and backs the hub off the shaft.

Re: PT 19 Propeller Removal
'All,
Thanks for the great information! The prop nut does have the groove to accept the snap ring, but no snap ring is present. I’m going to the airport later this week and will inspect the hub for the matching groove and tag name and number. As Curt explained, I will attempt to wiggle the prop from the spline. I appreciate all the help.

it is not just the snap ring! the hub may be the
kind that does not use one . also the nut must have the
groove as well as the hub for the snap ring. look on the hub
for a tag " Warner and the number"one type uses
the snap ring one doesn't[ I think the 79XX uses the
snap; the 85..or 88.. doesn't]. I may have both for the

They used to be fairly common at prop
shops, but I don't know how many are hanging
about.
Maybe check with Air Repair. I put the hub AN spec
in
the group files, but don't recall if the snap ring
is
called out.
