Wiring diagram for starter for Ranger Engdine

'Good Morning,

I need a wiring diagram for the starter circuit on a PT-26.

I have the diagrams for the generator, lights and so on, but nothing for the starter.

'No inertia starter. The PT-19 had a direct drive hand crank. On the PT-26,
the hand crank was removed and replaced with an electric starter.



John, I am not real sure what you are wanting. I have no wiring diagram.
On mine, there is just a starter switch that activates a starter solenoid
that connects the battery to the starter. The battery and solenoid are
located behind the front pilots seat and between the rear pilots rudder
pedals.

When I put my chime in on a technical question I usually get shot down - and as a turner/fitter and not aeronautical engineer that is hardly surprising. However, wearing my "historian's" hat I would like to clarify.

To the best of my knowledge all the M-62 series built by Fairchild had the manual starter and that includes the Hagerstown-built PT-26 (Cornell Mk.I). The one exception might be the final PT-19A that Fairchild bought back from the USAAF and upgraded for used by the company's own Flying Club. I seem to recall the modifications included an electric starter - Mike Kelly may be able to comfirm that.

All the PT-26A, PT-26B and Cornell Mk.IIs built by Fleet in Canada were built with electric starters and thus there was no hole in the cowling for the starter handle.

The above represents the situation when the aircraft were built and since then I understand many may have had the manual system replaced by an electric starter.

A 337 for a PT-26 Jasco alternator installation is posted in the files section. A schematic for the start circuit is included in the 337.
