'One of the fairchild SERVICE BULLITENS states the oilite bushings be
replaced with the ALUMINUM/BRONZE type and grease points added. They
give the FAIRCHILD part # for the items but not the specific material.
Anyone have a source for the raw stock that they have used. Or know a
alloy number for the aluminum/bronze stock?'

'I've not seen this Service bulletin. In fact the only one I've ever
seen was the one about checking for cracks at the landing gear
attachment. I do know these bushings have to be made of Bronze
Aluminum material and that an ordinary Bronze sintered bearing will
not hold up to the shear forces involved. Drawing 40462 refers to a
bronze bushing , Fairchild part # S-112-7, and is only referred to as
a Bronze bushing on that drawing. However a service manual for the UC-
61K refers to these bushings as Aluminum Bronze. I believe the latter
and recently had some made. There's no grease fitting on these
bushings, but there is grease alemite fitting on the steel sleeve
the two bushing halves press into. I don't think there's a lot of
choices for Aluminum Bronze bar stock, it's a standard alloy mix, and
very strong. Hope this helps.
