Re: Jasco Alternators
'Tom,
They have been installed on a few Warner and Ranger powered F-24s. I
maintain two of them. I will send you some FAA 337 data. Work well, follow
the install instructions. No STC available. I will install one on the Smilin
Jack NC22036. Save weight and increase elec power.

They have been used on Warner's. I have not seen one but the paperwork says
they are approved.

Re: Jasco Alternators
'Agree, they are lighter, smaller-lengthwise, and powerful. Installed
one on a Wright as we didn't have f/w clearance for long gens. The
only concern is most Eclipse have various flexible drives built in
for shaft mis-alignment...some have rubber, some use a "pencil"
shaft, an arrangement like a shaft in a shaft. The Jasco does have a
self aligning drive, but the 2 I messed with were STIFF. I was
concerned as to any strains this may place on the accessory drives,
especially the step up unit on a Wright. May not be a problem, just a
factor in your decision, in particular, non- STC installations. The
original Ranger gen had a rigid shaft so this may not even be a
factor. These things have bazillions of hrs on 985 and 1340 ag
planes and Jakes on 195's and new Wacos, so it gets along with P&W's
&Jakes just fine.
The prices are all in the same area it seems. The other link that
comes along for the ride is the controller...it's reliable, solid
state and I think field adjustable.
The system may get a little goofy to wire up as you are required to
install a 50amp brkr switch. This gives the Cessna 195 guys a fit
with the battery ign on a Jacobs and key ign switches. If you have
dual mags and a normal off l r both mag switch it's a no brainer. I
think their schematic is available online.
If Jamie gets you a 337 it should be a cinch to get your block 3
approval.
The Eclipse gens are dandy units but it does take a shop that
understands them and the missing link is the controller. I feel the
gen can be set up and give 1000 hrs of trouble free service, but it
gets short changed by being teamed up with a mismatched controller.
They have to work as a team and it takes fidgeting to get a matchup
as the modern controllers are really really cheap. A Zeftronics
controller is a great partner to work with an Eclipse but this too
takes a blk 3 signoff and by that time a fellow might say "heck, I
might as well put the Jasco in"
I discovered a neat little side benefit when installing the Jasco if
you're interested.

Try Chief Aircraft in
Grants Pass Oregon they have the Jasco's and are better to work with than
Spruce.
