Original generator wiring

Post by avdflyr »

'
I am finishing the final details on my Ranger and upon installing the generator and opening the electrical box,  I see three terminals,  No surprise....however, the terminals are marked A+, A-, and F...

I assume the F is for Field, but witch of the A+ and A- terminals are for the ground and the Armature.?
Fritz

Also, who should I go to to overhaul my fuel pump?'

'Thank you for the kind reply. Although I have dealt with many generators and Voltage regular systems, this is the first time I've encountered one that showed a plus and a minus. I suspected that the A- was to go to ground, but I wanted to verify it with you folks before I burned up the regulator.

'Keep in mind that the wiring diagram shows two wires leaving the A-. One goes direct to ground and the other goes to the next terminal board's B-.'

'Also, I am convinced that the A minus does not go to the BATT terminal on the voltage regulator. That would be a direct short from the battery.

'It appears you do not have access to the wiring diagram. The 2nd A- wire goes to a terminal marked B-. This is consistant with the practice of grounding the generator case to the regulator case. This is a very old labeling system used by Fairchild in the late 30's and early 40's and would have actually been shown as the gen case ground being shared with the regulator case ground in today's wiring diagrams. I can't see to attach photos here or I would send you a copy of the actual Fairchild wiring diagram'
