'Folks,
It's been bothering me for some time that the vertical stem on the Aero Classic tube in the Stomil 255 x 110 tyre is not compatible with the Variety hub.
I know from this forum that some have just accepted this and bent the rubber stem over and put up with a flat now and again.
I have done some research and found what I think is the 'Perfect solution' - all measurements are good to fit under the cover plate on the hub without too much stress on the tube.

This one for the dimensions only (the picture shows a stem for fitting to the rim)

I visited a tyre shop this morning where they said removing and replacing a valve stem on a tube was not a problem - we shall see!
I will report back

' Great job Frank. I await your follow-report.I too have struggled with this monster. Have used a metal stem extender that works well but is a bit of a painto get screwed on the existing stem since it is at such an angle that you have to use a screwdriver (or some similar tool) to clear it from the inside of the rim. Also have to tighten the extension with small vise grips (or some similar tool).Roger Starr

Re: F24 Tailwheel Valve stem
'Folks,
After a real hassle with Gemplers, or their computer, not accepting an overseas payment for a domestic US shipping address I finally got my niece to order them and send them on to me. I have now installed one - not 100% but pretty close and a whole lot better than bending over a straight valve stem. The stem fouls the hub slightly so an extender is needed to inflate - otherwise it fits well. I have inflated to 40psi and will check it in the morning although I am not expecting a problem.
I had the job (vulcanising) done by a shop that specialises in heavy truck tyres which only cost a donation to their coffee fund.
Yahoo has finally condescended to accept uploads to my album (Frank Cox) - 3 photos are there.

Re: F24 Tailwheel Valve stem
'I can understand your problem. An old tire and tube for my 24 finally gave up the ghost. I was hoping to get some more time out of it, but after 40 plus years it did other wise.I did get a tire and tube from Dresser. The tire was Chinese and the tube, Polish. It seems good until I put a small amount of air in the tube. It retracted back inside the stem opening of the wheel. Part of the problem was that the stem was mounted in the middle of the tube, versus slightly to one side. The air hose wouldn't fit into the opening. Went to the local auto parts and bought a couple 3/4" valve stem extensions. I need the first just to get to the edge of the valve stem cutout and the second one place in series to allow for connecting to the air hose.I under stand that some of these new tires tend to slip on the wheels. Either a rubber cement or small sheet metal screws through the wheel and into the tire bead will work.I hope the 40psi pressure you use was just for the time being. My old civilian book said 45psi.Bob
