Presentation & Information

Post by f24lovers »

'Hi everybody!
I am the co-owner of a Fairchild F-24W-41A in Spain. Actually the aircraft is located in Madrid-Cuatrovientos (LECU) and is flying with other vintage aircrafts in the Infante de Orleans Fundation. (See picture in this link http://www.aviationcorner.net/public/photos/2/9/avc_00326529.jpg
The aircraft registration is EC-AJZ, built in 1943 and it is in pristine conditions, but we would like to improve it a little bit, so we would like to ask some questions to this group, to get advise from experts (thank you). Currently our airplane is equipped with a Warner Scarab engine (165 hp), wood 2 blade propeller and no wheel pants.
The first question is about wheel pants, we would like to find wheel pants for our airplane, but is very difficult to find that stuff in europe, could you share any contact, builder or parts-shop to find those parts?
The second one is about the propeller, we know that our actual propeller is not the original one, and we would like to know if there is any option to find an original propeller for this type of aircraft, and if with that replacement we can expect a valuable performance increase or not.
Of course, any other information would be welcomed! :-)
Best regards and thank you very much!'

'EC-AJZ,

See attached PDF document that has POC for support. Will not attach to the yahoo email.

Jim Rattray

Rattray Aero-Products

Wisconsin 53511-8662

Metal wheel pants are hard to come by even here in the States. Rattray does build fiberglass ones. I have a set in the hangar. Pic attached. They are very nice, nicer than the metal ones. Step material can be applied and used. They are that strong.

As for propellers. Sensenich manuf new props. You can call them direct. Mike Redpath also makes wooden props under the name Falcon Propellers. He was in the process of leasing the manuf rights to Catto Props. Don’t know if this has happened. Mike builds a good prop, outperforms the Sensenich. Just don’t pay for prop up front. Your other choices are Curtiss Reed and Aeromatic. Curtiss Reeds are still out there, are expensive. Make sure Maxwell Prop Shop does the inspection prior to purchase. The Aeromatic was being produced by Tarver Propellers. They surrendered their FAA Prod and Repair Cert a while back. Don’t know if they will ever get it back.

Hope this helps.
