  You must have a strut that has the tube bolted onto the fork. The axle is on the fork and that is a welded up piece not a casting. Some struts had the fork bolted to the strut tube. I'm told that was a Canadian assembly. Most of the ones I've seen were the welded strut and fork.

I measured a strut this afternoon. It is one that has the tube welded to the fork. It is 38 inches from the bottom of the fork to the top of the tube. and 48 inches total to the top of the plunger that fastens to the top of the gear casting.
