' There is a bleed hole with a little screw closing it.  Remove fill plug.  Remove bleed hole screw.  Feed in oil of choice until it comes out the bleed hole.  I use a piece  of small Tygon tubing and either a funnel or a squeeze bottle to control the flow into the small opening.  Replace bleed hole screw.  Replace fill plug.  Safety wire fill plug.  It’s all in the F-24 Operators Manual; get one off the internet.  It says to use Lockheed No.5, Lockheed No.12 or Delco No.7 brake fluid.  These are brake fluids of the 1940’s, and the same is used in the tail wheel strut and the brakes.  I cannot find what the modern day equivalents to those old fluids are.   The F-24 manual says nothing about 5606, though that is used in landing gear and brake systems in other airplanes – we use it in our Cessna Cardinal.  MIL-H-5606 is supposed to be compatible with synthetic rubber seals.  Whatever you use, be sure it is compatible with your elastomeric components.  I can’t help you there.  My airplane still has the old expander tube brakes, and it has been converted to use DOT 5 Silicone Brake Fluid in brakes and landing gear struts.  This is not a conversion to make without some forethought and research.  As I understand, due to fluid compatibility issues, it isn’t as simple as just draining out the old fluid and dumping in DOT 5.  I probably wouldn’t switch to DOT 5 silicone if it was my choice.  However, my airplane came with that choice already made, and as I understand it, it would be hell to switch back to a non-silicone based fluid because of compatibility/contamination issues, so I’m stuck with it.   From: fairchildclub@yahoogroups.com Sent: Tuesday, May 12, 2015 5:24 PM To: fairchildclub@yahoogroups.com Subject: [fairchildclub] F24 oleo servicing    
I'm guessing the square fittings on the top side of the strut is how you service?


How much do you fill it with?


Also I'm guessing 5606 would be correct.

I have the Fairchild CD's from the club, and all I could find was the old service manual that broke the oleo down, but never explained how to service it. I must have skipped the procedure somewhere in the CD's.
Do you have any experience jacking the F24? My jacking points are non-existent on the gear legs by the fuselage.'
