PT 26 SEATS

Post by John C Wilson »

'My PT 26 has seats that are made of a composite material that looks like micarta. Does anyone know what this material is, and more importantly what can be used to repair it? In the past someone has tried to use what appears to be fiberglass. It has not adhered to the original material very well.
Thanks
John

'No, I received nothing on how to repair them.I tried several things but nothing would adhere to the original material.I eventually made some aluminum reinforcements that came out fairly nice.  Wherever possible I used a rivet squeeze to reduce the chance of further damage to the seat material. To do the repairs I completely disassembled the seats, removing all the hardware.  I then cleaned and sand blasted everything painted and reassembled using new hardware.I also took the opportunity to replace the seat belts and shoulder harness.
