PT26 oil filter

Post by John Wilson »

'I have recently purchased a PT 26, and have received conflicting advise about removing the oil filter. I would appreciate any comments pro or con. If anyone has the filter removed can you send me pictures or a schematic on how the oil lines are routed etc.
Thanks

'The PT-19s came without the filter installation you have(a Fleet/Canadian feature) so any PT pictures will give you what you need.

'Thanks for the pictures.  I will send you some of the filter instillation as soon as I get some.Have you heard anything about the advantages or disadvantages of having the filter?  I have been advised by some old-time ranger people to remove the filter.John

'John, I don’t have a filter on my PT-19 Ranger, but it seems like a good idea to me.  I have Baron with two new IO-550E engines that came without filters.  I ran them about 200 hours with just the screens and then installed the Air Wolf filters.  I did oil samples and was getting about 250 ppm iron in the oil.  The first sample after installing the filter reduced the iron to about 60 ppm.  I now have 1600 hrs on the engines and the iron in the oil samples runs about 30 to 40 ppm.  So in my experience and opinion the filters did a good job of catching the contaminants.  So I think a filter on your Ranger is an acceptable idea.  If there is a negative, I am not aware of it.  Good luck,  Jack    From: fairchildclub@yahoogroups.com [mailto:fairchildclub@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of John C Wilson
