Warner rear prop cone question

Post by Joe Preston »

' For all of you round engine guys out there. Not sure about the Rangers. I  have a rear bronze prop cone NOS for my 165 Warner. It is an AN 5008-20 and is solid. When fitting the prop up on the shaft the other night, the cone would not go past the rear end of the splines. There is about .005" difference between the ID of the cone and OD of the smooth part of the crankshaft. I have seen some used cones that are sliced. Does anyone know if the procedure to get it to fit is to slice it? I have had differing opinions from round engine people I know.   Joe  '
