Overhead Compass

Post by Lionheart »

'Hey all,

I can hardly find any good photos or 'any' information on the overhead compasses that Fairchilds came with.

Does anyone have names of the stock compasses used in Fairchild 24's and does anyone have photos of these? They seem to be rare. One has a odd sort of doughnut shaped housing in the center and a seal disc at the back.

Many thanks for any help.

'Bill,

This is data for the Post War models:

Drawing Number 411050 is for support plate. See attached.

Photo of one installed.

I looked in the Post War F-24 Handbook, no detail.

The UC61 IPB calls out on Fig 89, Index 1 a B-16 with the same bracket
number. "B" is for Bendix. US Army Air Corp Tech Order 05-15-9 covers this.
I don't have ESSCO may have it. The picture in the IPB on page 94 appears to
be the same model as civilian application.

They are pretty common type. Should have no problem finding.

Hope this helps.
