F24 Tailwheel Cable Spring

Post by Frank »

'Does any one know where I can obtain an F24 Tailwheel Cable Spring as per drawing 43237. The ones from A/C Spruce are too big. I have one, but the other has exceeded its usable life. Perhaps somebody has a serviceable one for sale.

I am coming over from UK for the (dare I say it - the SuperCub get together at New Holstein)and plan to spend Thursday 26th. at OSH where I look forward to meeting as many 'Fairchild Folk and their toys' as possible.

'I hate to be the first one to say it, but I would look at as many hardware stores in the US or UK as you can find.  You could possibly find that spring arrangement that you are looking for.  Finding just the spring may not be very hard.  The chance of finding the whole assemble I would think is quite good.  I really wouldn't be surprised if Fairchild (Temco) didn't do much the same thing.

'Frank,
Do an online search of Lee Spring Co. (leespring.com). You can compare your spring to their stock product line or they can replicate the original spring you have on hand.

Thank you Bob and Hugh

I have e-mailed Lee spring, and also European Springs, with a copy of the drawing and a photo of the good one I have. Just awaiting their reply - I hope there is no minimum order/price as so many of the big companies have. If there is maybe I'll have to beg for a 'sample' and make a donation to their coffee fund!'

'It is as I half expected - these large companies haven't even bothered to acknowledge my e-mail. Lee spring catalogue comes close but not close enough. The overall length is a bit critical due to the fixed length of the cable and the amount of slack that can be taken up by the turnbuckles.

If anyone has one sitting in their 'Come in Handy' box of bits I would be very interested to swap 'folding money' for it.

I am planning on being at OSH on the Thursday and possibly Friday - coming over from the Super Cub 'get together' at New Holstein - perhaps we could arrange 'The Swap' if any one who might be prepared to part with said spring will be there.

VMT (very many thanks)
