'Yesterday flew 0.5 hours, lost 0.5 gal 120W Aeroshell oil, most of it appeared to be on the belly of my PT-26.
End of breather tube had been left as originally cut with a squared off end that is 5 inch below the belly. Tube slopes aft at angle of the lower firewall.

This morning cut the tube end so the opening is parallel to the belly pan about 8" behind the firewall bottom, still 5" below the belly pan.
Took a short hop (0.3 hr) to see if that made a difference - and came back with a clean belly!

I'll put a photo of the tube in the album N69167.

What a relief.

During inspection of the wing struts we found 1 forward and 1 aft strut damaged (dented)
per the manual no damage is allowed. Does anyone have spares avialable for sales or trade?

I am also looking for a tool or method to check tension on the drag and anti-drag wires in the wing bays?
We have some "good old boys" suggestions and want to compare

'I have also wondered about the -24's wing struts. They seem quite beefy, but thinking of other types that have had AD's coming on the heels of failures, has anyone looked into the prevalence of wing strut problems in this series? Any inspection suggestions, or NDT procedures that would be recommended?

I bought one of these from Holloway Engineering

And then graphed out and interpolated for the tensions that are off his 'Tie wire' scale. I have not used it yet as I have not got that far.

Maybe if you graph out his figures we could then compare our results and if there is an appreciable difference take a closer look to see who is right.

If you would like to borrow my tool then just let me know and I will get it to you.

'Whenever I redo wings, I use the thread torque as the primary means of
tensioning the wires. Once you have the correct torque, they should be
tight enough. You would not want to go beyond the torque levels anyway.
These are not flying wires after all.

As for the struts, I have had mine inspected by a local machine shop
that does military work. They have an eddy current machine and a couple
of other means of inspecting metal. I would start aking around there.
They all seem to know each other and what equipment they all have.

The structural repair manual tells you what the stream line tubing matierial and the thickness is, the 24 blue print 44169 and 44170 shows how to construct them. I dont know if the anyone has the streamline tubing but if you can get it you should be able to construct a set of struts.

after looking at the Website and confiring with our Inspector, I do not see any way to
attach the tool to the drag wires due to rib placements. I will continue to research
the torque issues and report our findings
