WarnerGaskets

Post by Jp Lorie »

'Hello good people,
As my project is nearing completion I am going to replace the push-rod tube hoses, that is the 2" long hoses that connect the push-rod tube to the nipple on the engine. I am attempting to do this without removing the cylinders because the engine only has 115 hours since major overhaul. but the hoses are not young and healthy because, the overhaul was done 20+ years ago.  Do any of you have experience doing this hose change?  If so I am all ears! Please advise of the best and easiest way.

Will I need new exaust and intake tube gaskets is there a source of gaskets that will work on this engine?

'I am trying to remember from a long time ago.  I think that it can be done.
You will need to remove the valve cover first.  then remove the rocker arm.  Then pull out the push rod.  I would say, if the rubber was fairly new, you could probably start unscrewing the push rod tube.  The rubber would turn loose of the tube and you would be home free.  Trying to put something between the rubber & tube to help break the rubber, I think that you would end up scoring the tubes surface.
BUT.......    THE RUBBER ISN'T FRESH.    I don't know what I would try.  I would be thinking of how to get the old rubber off without damaging the tubes.  The tubes could be crushed easily.   I would like to cut the sleeve, length wise and them remove it.  Maybe use an EXACTO knife, and start cutting it length wise while pulling open as you cut.  I would think that you would want to make the cut straight in, but at an angle where the blade is sliding against the nipple.   You may find it easier to cut down the tube, toward the crank,
You may need to make repeated cuts to get the job  done.

As far as the compression Copper gaskets, I'd try NAPA first.

I would  like to hear what someone else has to say.  I hope that I will in you position in the future

'JP,
I have found Harmon Dickerson from MO to be a very good source for Warner parts.
Try him at hdaircraft@cs.com.
