Re: Copilots Window Replacement
'I think that you may find that going to a good glass repair shop can cut you a new window. If I remember correctly, the only problem that you may, will be to get un-tinted glass. You should also be able to get new channel material as well. I did the top, front & rear channel with the same stuff, which had an aluminum base. If it proved to be too tight or loose against the glass, it can be adjusted with little or no problem. Be careful, it will crimp easily. And don't shim the channel too tightly against the front and rear edge of the glass. Your old glass & channel should provide a good guide.
Getting the old glass out may be best accomplished by removing the door skin. After that, there is 4 glue joints that will need to be broken loose. If your Fairchild is like mine, you really won't need to break the glue joint. It will already be broken and the nail is all that it holding it together. The one thing to watch when putting the glass back in place is to not locate the channel any farther inside (toward the inside of the cabin) than it already is. The channel at the bottom of the glass and the regulator can make contact.
