Bearing nut

Post by Buhwana »

'I last spoke about my crankshaft moving for and aft more than I
though was normal and thanks to all who offered advice.
I am in the process of the annual and I showed this to my mechanic
and he agreed it moved too much. We have removed the propeller and
want to tighten up the bearing nut. Looks like it takes a special
wrench, called a AT-137 in the overhaul manual. The specs say to
tighten it up to 550-600 Ft. Lbs (not looking at the book right now
but going from memory while writing this) but the overhaul manual
shows a picture of the mechanic hitting this AT-137 wrench with a
hammer and says to tighten it in this manner. Which is right?
We've also notice some oil leaking from the bearing. Is there a
bearing seal (don't see this in the manual) or just the laminated shim?
BTW where can I get laminated shim (should I need some) and the use
of the wrench AT-137 and the driver AT-139 for seating the bearings/
shims?
thanks

'We use a 3 foot long wrench and let a 200 pounder hang from it.
