'I went down to the local NAPA store a bought a 3 of generic grease caps that
were close to the correct size for the wheels. The diameter was a few
thousands of an inch to big and inboard lip was to long.
I measured the distance from the bearing's outer race to the outer edge of
the wheel, then cut the cap down to that dimension from the flange to the
inner edge down to that. I think it was something like 1/4". Then I cut
some of the diameter away so it would mate snugly with the wheel and tapered
the edge slightly so it would start on the wheel more easily. Maybe a
couple of thousandth difference. If I had taken to much material off, I
could always have safety it a couple of times to the wheel spokes. If you
try it, make a plug to go inside the cap. If you don't, when you tighten
down the head stock, you will distort the grease cap if you tighten it
enough to provide a good hold, or maybe just plane bend the crap out of it.
The end result if you don't get it tight enough will be, the bit will snag
and then really bend the crap out of it. (voice of experience) The NAPA
Balkamp P/N I used was "730-2410". To stop the transfer if dust/dirt/water,
as on F-24's with wheel fairings, and using a stub axle extension, I'm using
a disk 1/4" felt. If it looks like it is moving around any, a dab of 3M
Fast Tack cement would do the trick.'
