'Alan,
They are not for towing. Will break off. They were used for tieing down the
aircraft for shipping. Mine has one of each. The lug was broken off years
ago. Either gear will work.

'Alan,
lots of luck finding a gear let. Why not take the eye bolt out of the left
gear leg then it will look the same as the right.

Re: Broken 24W right UC-61 gear leg needed with tow bar eye bolt
'The UC-61's, according to the manual that I have, did have a tow ring
installed adjacent to the wheel jack point. (IAW AN01-115CA-2, Pg 34, Fig
52) It appears to be quite similar to the tow ring that I had on both legs
of the PT-19. What I gather from the manual, airframe was completely
disassembled. The fuselage was stripped of wings, tail and landing gear.
One set of the landing gear attach points (front or rear) were mounted to a
cradle, and the tail was attached to an "A" frame at the other end. So, the
rings were used for tie-down, maybe with the exception of using the rings
for attach the gear legs to the floor us the UC-61 shipping crate.
According to the gentleman that I bought my 24 from 35 years ago, the "ring
eyes" on the gear leg have two purposes. 1st As a first step when climbing
the tripod for refueling, and the 2nd use was for towing. I am like you, I
can't find that anything, anywhere in the manual about towing. The manual
that I have shows a ring eyelet on the gear leg, but nothing was even
mentioned about it existing.
I remember that statement very well. It was a part of a "never, use the
ring eyelets for tie-downs", statement that he made. They will break off.
He had lost a 24W at Indian Springs Nevada in the 60's when both broke off
during high winds.
The reason the ring eyelets break off could have something to do using them
as a stepping point.

'Alan,
Some people think they do not look good on a F24 what do you want brakes or
looks. The other is the cost. almost $2,000.00.

After the ground loop of my F24 I found the right
brake dragging very bad and want to try to rule out known
brake problems,Both wheels,two drums,one complete brake assy
to start with are needed .I also fly in all types of weather
when I picked my F24 up it was +25 and went to -24 and rain
at 8K feet and have been told that hays do not like rain or cold.
