file upload: unpaved public airports of the US

Post by dcasali »

'Hi All,

The snow has finally melted here, and my thoughts are turning to air
travel. I got to thinking about visits to grass strips, which make my 24
G happiest, and started hunting for a way to find 'em all. The web
services (eg, AirNav) were no help, but I found one can order a CD of
the latest FAA facilities database for a reasonable fee, so I did.

The CD files are not in a convenient format, but I was able to read the
data into a Filemaker database and then prepare a listing of all public
use unpaved airstrips in the US. (There are over 1200; Michigan tops the
list with 139.

I have uploaded a PDF file of the full US listing, bookmarked by state.
It is a big file (1.1mb), so I also uploaded a smaller sample of only
the Michigan listings.

Private strips are included in the FAA database, but do not appear in my
uploaded file. I can generate a full listing of any state if anyone
wants one...

Now get out there and crush some clover!

'Thanks very much!

And you're all invited to fly into our home airport which boast TWO grass
runways (and a paved one for training wheels). It's 1h0, Creve Coeur, MO.
