F24 UC-61 series and RAF Argus

Post by broadhurst@talk21.com »

'Hello to all,
Occasionally I have askrd one of Primary Trainer owners for some
information relating to their aircraft. The reason is that I have
for many years been resarching the production and service history of
the type. Needless to say it has become a very complex project!

Twenty or more years ago I tried to compile a production list of all
Model 24s working mainly from the 1968 US civil aircraft register,
various later updates and several UK publications relating to USAAF
and RAF serial nos. The list was never complete due to the
information I could not then access. From there on interest in the M-
62 series took over and the Model 24 gen received little further
attention.

A recent publication using data extract from Lend-Lease files has
proved some of the data I originally worked from was slightly in
error. That and the posting by Mike Denest regarding the UC-61K
Forwarder models, was followed up by some interesting information
from Fairchild Club Model 24 owners in Norway and Switzerland. All
of which created an incentive to rewrite the original list, this time
as a computer file - rather than a hand written loose leaf file!

Through the membership of Air Britain and the available access to on-
line registers such as "Landings.com"; "FAA Registery"
and "Aerofiles.com" a lot more aircraft can be identified than
possible for me 20 yrs ago. Kent Mitchell' book was also a great
help. Last week I received a list (incomplete) of US export licences
for Model 24 and ex military UC-61s. Amongst other things this
revealed about two dozen exported to Brazil, plus a few to the Middle
and Far East, as well as an odd export to Hungary (HA-LLO). No
export licenced was listed however, for an unidentified F-24 (date
not known)that wore the Persian (Iranian) EP-ALB registration.

The trail of some individual aircraft goes cold and for that reason I
would like to enlist the help of fellow Club members. If you have a
Model 24, or know of one, which at some stage has had another
registration allocated - US, Canadian or foreign; has been based
outside North America or served in any military air arm I would like
to hear from you. I am particularly interested in serial number
information from the plates or documents of aircraft that once served
in the USAAF, USN, USCG, RCAF, RAF or any other air arm.

Hope the eventual results can be used in the files section, the Club
website or the next edition CD.

If any one can help please reply to my e-mail address direct rather
than via the message board.

And by the way - I have not given up on PT research and am still
looking out for information relating to M-62/PT-19/PT-23/PT-26/
Cornell/ and Funk and Weatherly or any other Ag conversions.

Many thanks in advance, Tony

'Tony,

Any research data that you find, I would be pleased to include on the next CD
ROM. We are starting the next one as I write this. More data is coming in,
some in yesterdays mail. Everybody, lets get that data together and document
it in one location for all to share.

Thank you Tony for your efforts, I know what your going thru.
