UC-61K

Post by Karl Saenger »

'Hello,

May I trow in a few words about UC-62K's

There were 306 UC-61K ordered by the USAAF. All of them went to the
Royal Air Force and were allocated RAF serial numbers. The USAAF
serial numbers were:

43-14917, c/n 881, 43-14918 to 43-15032, c/n 882 to 996; 44-83036 to
44-83 225, c/n 997 to 1186. Fairchild used the term construction
numbers c/n. Therefore if you own one of the above aircraft, you have
a true warbird.

There were significant differences to a F24R46A:

-Gross weight 2882 lb versus 2562 lb
-24 Volt electrical system with external power plug
-oil dilution system
-military radio equipment
-regognition lights
-jettison doors
-seat pans (the UC-61K was flow with seat type parachutes)
-skylights

The engine was always a Ranger L-440-7 of 200 hp, which is basically
a 6-440C5 with Marvel Schebler carb, shielded ignition and Scintilla
magnetos.

All UC-61K had a factory name plate and an US Army Air Corps
acceptance plate fitted at the lower right hand side of the
instrument panel.

If you have any questions, please get in touch.

Best regards

Karl Saenger, with UC-61K 43-14927, c/n 891'

'Any large belt and hose store. One servicing construction and farm industry.
Probably a red hose approved for oil. Probably not aircraft hose. Do not
tell seller what fore They do not any liability for aircraft use. It far
better than the hose on the original aircraft.

'I have a list of current UC-61Ks which I have put together myself
over the last 30 years of owning a UC-61K c/n 975,43-15011,currently
on the British register as G-BCBH. Yes that's right, I was once the
world's youngest F24 owner. Very interesting to read all the
different messages, are people out there running Rangers on W OIL?
Presently I am running a 6-440-c2 175hp engine ,originally it had a
c5 200hp,hand starting at the moment as my starter motor is u/s,but
this will be rectified shortly, that's it. Harry MACKINTOSH'

Jamie and Mike,

I believe you need to be looking for an F-24 with a Fairchild serial
between 881 and 1186.

Good luck, Tony

A flyer is ok but a project allows me to duplicate a
production UC-61K as accepted by USAAF/RAF. No has
yet to do one of these airplanes as was originally
delivered.
