Help Wanted Researching Cimarron Field PT-19 Paint Scheme

Post by Mark Howard »

'I am just beginning to restore Fairchild PT-19A AAF Serial 42-2879 to flying condition. It served both at Cimarron Field, Yukon, Oklahoma and Mustang Field, El Reno, Oklahoma during the war. I am looking for any materials including photographs, cadet yearbooks, post cards, or any other information on these two bases. My main goal is to identify its exact markings during the war so that I can authentically reproduce the paint scheme. I have just verified with almost 100% certainty that the aircraft was blue and yellow instead of all silver when it arrived at Cimarron, but I still have not determined the large numbers painted on the nose, fuselage, and tail (field number). The aircraft was probably painted silver later at Cimarron or after it was transferred to Mustang Field. My aircraft arrived at Cimarron on 6/16/42. After a couple of months of research, I am reasonably certain that the aircraft carried a number greater than 704 but less than 716. If you have photos of any military PT-19 carrying a field number between those numbers, please send me a scan of it.
I am also interested in its civil history. It carried the registration NC51920 and N51920 during its civil history which began in April, 1945. I am looking for photographs of it in civilian hands and am trying to contact former owners that included H.B. Handley, Nicholas Klenovich, Rudolph Zarecky, Nick Egnot, John Bubrick, John Roche, James and Robert Jones, Edward Barnhart, Lloyd Whitney, John Pfeffer, Allan Chaney, and Hal Foster. During most of its civil career, it was based in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Thank you very much for your help.
