PT-26 electrical problem
'Has anyone had experience with a problem like this? The
generator in our PT-26 will not charge the battery. The generator
shows a 14 volt output when a meter is placed directly on it, but the
ammeter in the cockpit never registers that it is charging. We've
replaced the voltage regulator and the battery, but neither of these
has had any effect on the problem. An avionics person checked the
battery/generator circuit but was unable to find any discontinuity.
The battery charges fine when a charger is connected directly to it,
but it runs down after a few engine starts.
Any suggestions wolud be appreciated.

'I know it may sound stupid, but it sounds like you could have an open
ammeter.

at my old F-24 schematic, and yours should not be much different. The
Battery terminal of the regulator should go to the ammeter, through it, to a
fuse, and from there to the Master solenoid. The drawing that I have in
front of me isn't too clear. I see the four terminals. Two really heavy
duty ones for the battery in, and the output to the starter relay. One
smaller one connects the master solenoid coil to the master switch, to
provide a completer circuit to operate solenoid. And it looks like a fourth
terminal that would connect the battery voltage to voltage regulator, via
the ammeter and a fuse, when the master solenoid is operated. When you have
everything shut off, the battery voltage is not present on the battery
terminal of the voltage regular. Operate the master switch and the master
solenoid, and you will have voltage on the battery terminal of the voltage
regulator. Checking the Master solenoid isn't a bad idea. It would be the
last thing in the circuit.
If I Mis-stated something, Please someone, jump in and correct me.

I'm looking at the same F24 Wiring Diagram (UC-61 T.O. 01-115CA-2 Section IV
Page 73). I agree with Robert Etter for the flow. You have an open circuit
somewhere between the Reg (Generator control) and the Batt. I would suspect
the Ammeter Shunt or any of the wiring in between including the Breaker/Fuse
panel. Get the Volt/Ohm meter out and starting checking down the line. Good
luck.

'You are right, except the F 24 has a different system than the PT 26. There
is no master solenoid or starter relay, every function is controlled by
switches. T.O. No. 01-115GA-4 Section 11 figure 143 page 178 is the wiring
diagram for the PT 26 that should help if you can't find the T.O. let me
