Tailwheel Axle Bolt
Tailwheel Axle Bolt
Does anyone know what size or where to purchase a new tail wheel axle bolt? The Fairchild drawings only list generic Goodyear parts, not the specific bolt size or common part.

Ray: What are you working on? For the PT series, there were 3 different tailwheels used, depending on serial number.
Re: Tailwheel Axle Bolt
Fairchild 24W, and in this case it's the same axle bolt as used in the PT-23 (or any PT with the 10" wheel). The manual simply states 10" tire tube and axle General or Goodyear.
Re: Tailwheel Axle Bolt
Just looking at the 61370 tailwheel fork drawing, which is a fork for a 10" tailwheel for a PT, the bolt's grip length needs to be 6" and the diameter of the axle hole in the fork is 5/8". I don't remember if there is a bushing in there or not. I don't have a drawing for the 43272 fork that is used on the F24.
Or, I'll probably be at the hangar tonight. I think I can measure my F24's TW bolt length/diameter without removing it. I think I have an 8" wheel though.

I have the bolt, just need to get a replacement. Thanks for the offer to measure, I don’t have the bolt nearby. The 24 does have a bushing in the fork.

Ray: Unfortunately the IPB's just give an internal code for a number of the tailwheel parts. There is a reference in the books, that states that there were various suppliers for each size wheel and tire and tube. Mike Kelly might have some reference somewhere that can translate that code into something usable.
