Re: W-670 conversion for F-24?

Post by Dave Hadfield »

The Warner-185 in my F-24W46 has an unrepairable crankcase crack. It wasn't overpowered to begin with, so I'd rather not change to a W-165. So I too am looking into changing to a W-670.

I'm in Canada, and would like it to stay a Certified aircraft. There is one conversion in Canada now that I know of, to a Jacobs, in Alberta although it was converted in the USA. I've spoken to the owner and he's happy with it.

There are 3 STCs in the FAA database:

SA369NW Installation of a Continental R-670-11 (W670-16) engine, Sensenich 98AA-66 propeller, and associated systems
SA4-45 Engine mount for Continental W670 engine.
SA4-42 Engine mount for Jacobs R-755 engine.

The first one is a one-off, done in 1976, the other 2 are 1960 conversions to the 670 and Jacobs engines. Does anyone have any input about these? Is "Serv-Aero Engr Inc" still in existence?

I'd really like to talk to an owner who has one with the Cont 670. Can anyone put me in touch?

Thanks,

Dave
