Tripod wood "fairing" attachment

Post by bbarrett »

My F24 came almost entirely assembled, but I discovered that the tripod fairings had been installed without the wood fairing underneath. Thankfully, no harm done to the fairings in the mean time and I have the wood fairings, so this should be an easy fix. However, I can't find any plans or notes on how the wood was attached to the tripod. It looks like there is tape residue on the wood from its previous installation, and many of the pictures I could find on the club DVDs look like either tape or lacing cord attachment. Anyone know what is "right" or common?

My wooden fairings had a shallow slot- one on each, around them which allowed a soft metal strap with a 'buckle' to be 'countersunk' . These two straps (I cant remember the technical name) were well past their
use-by date so I replaced them with 'TY-Wrap' cable ties.

Have fun removing the metal fairing - mind your fingers!
