Piston Rings -- custom-made?

Post by dave@hadfield.ca »

'
I can't find any rings for my Warner 185 that are .020-thou oversized (for a couple of bored-out cylinders). Harman and John D have none left. And I can't seem to get regular contact with John W.

So, has anyone had rings custom-made? Recommend a particular outfit?

I could have a batch done if anyone is interested.

'Take your dimensions to an automotive machine shop. The ring set is available. It may be for a 41 studebaker but they are available. I built a aircraft engine from the 30's last year and the ring set was an old international truck

'In case anyone is interested, you can get rings of nearly any size from Hastings.
Go to the Ring Finder page. Then to Individual Rings. Then scroll to the size you want, and click on it. You'll see dozens of varieties of ring for that diameter.
If you tell them you want it for an airplane, they'll say, "We don't support that." But you don't have to mention it at all.
My own rings are now coming from an impeccable aviation source, of course. ;)

Hey Dave

Have you used these before.

Do you know anyone that has great success stories?

We managed to buy two airframes with 5 ranger engines. A lot of work needs to be done including some minor engine work.
