Hydraulic Brake Hose

Post by gdrebo@yahoo.com »

Does anyone know of a supplier/manufacturer for the rubber hydraulic hose located near the wheel strut scissor, which connects the metal brake lines?  Thanks in advance!

' Michael,

I got mine from Aero Performance.  They make custom hoses to order. Quick service. They have a shop in Ft. Worth as well as a few other places.

' Michael,
Let me know how this works out.  I contacted two shops, A.E.R.O. hose shop in Granite City, IL and Specialty Hose in Akron, OH.  I sent a hose to A.E.R.O. for duplication, and they returned it without explanation.  I sent Specialty Hose some pics after talking with the rep there, and never heard back from them.  I think the flare inside the fitting has them stumped as it's not a real B-nut connection.

I (obviously) still need help with this.  Have other PT owners changed their hose configuration to a more modern design?

Thanks,
Pete Crawford

Let me know how this works out.  I contacted two shops, A.E.R.O. hose shop in Granite City, IL and Specialty Hose in Akron, OH.  I sent a hose to A.E.R.O. for duplication, and they returned it without explanation.  I sent Specialty Hose some pics after talking with the rep there, and never heard back from them.  I think the flare inside the fitting has them stumped as it's not a real B-nut connection.

I (obviously) still need help with this.  Have other PT owners changed their hose configuration to a more modern design?

Thanks,

' You're probably referring to the "inverted flare" (I think it's called) fittings used on the PT brake lines. I tried to find some new ones and failed. I ended up modernizing the brake system with C-310 Cleveland wheels and brakes which is why I could get the hoses from Aero Performance using AN fittings except for the two master cylinders fittings.

I'm still working on this conversion. The big problem is finding rubber parts for 5606 fluid that fit the goodyear master cylinders. Automotive brake kits rubber parts not compatible with 5606 fluid. Dot 5 silicon fluid works with auto brake kits and clevelend brakes, but because I do a lot of painting, I'm not willing to risk silicon contamination in my shop. Dot 3 and 4 eat paint and are great paint strippers. The 5606 conversion is ultimately the better solution IMO.

It would be great to find a modern aircraft master cylinder that would work in the PT without major modification. Anyone know of one?

Parker still makes'em,  you may have to hunt the auto parts places to find them. Piper used them a lot through the Sixties as well.
