'Hi Fairchild ClubbersI am ready to reinstall my Grimes Landing light after disassembly and paint. I removed the motor off the unit, and now can't figure out how to get the sprocket gear and motor to mesh up correctly to make the light extend all the way and turn on at the right time.
Has anyone gone through this exercise or have the Grimes ST-250 overhaul and maintenance manual available?

I had mine overhauled and converted to a sealed beam unit (no original bulbs available).

'You could look at it differently. When the lamp reaches full extension, 2 things happen almost at the same time. One set of contacts open to stop the motor, sort of. It will coast to a stop pretty quick. Just slightly before the motor turn off, another set of contacts will close to turn on the lamp. For the retract, that set of contacts closes within a fraction of a second after the lamp moved out of the stowed position. If the ST-250 is identical to the ST-1220 electrically, which except for size, the motor is geared and won't do anything to start or stop the up or down function.Just a friendly reminder. There is an AD for the DC input wire gauge to the DC fuse buss. OE it was 18 gauge wire, now it needs to be 10 gauge or 8 gauge. Just add all of your load together, look at the load versus distance. Anyway, just because someone has signed off on the AD, don't mean they knew what they were doing. Guess when you will find out that it was not replaced, At Night, everything is on, radios, transponder, nav lights, strobes, interior lights, and instrument lights. A good battery can melt a small wire. Just hope you have plenty of batteries for your flash lights.
