Re: Warner Oil Change
Warner Oil Change
'To those of you who fly behind a Warner -- Is there anything I should know about the oil changing procedure for my Warner 165. Are there oil pumps that lose their prime and have to be attended to somehow, etc. Thanks.'
Re: Warner Oil Change
'Yes most definitely! The procedure for releasing the air trapped is in the Fairchild F-24 manual. And I find that the sooner I refill the oil tank after draining the less trouble I have re-priming. When the procedure is complete I rapidly spin the prop by hand with the front plugs removed until It shows pressure. If it does not prime, remove the oil screen plug and and speed prop until you get good flow. Re-instal screen and spin prop. You should now have pressure. It's a great engine.

Re: Warner Oil Change
' Thank you JP, but I’ll be danged if I can find that procedure in the manuals I have, which are the “Fairchild F-24W46 and F-24R46 Owners Manual”, which I presume is the latest for the 24, and the US AAF/NAVY manual, T.O. No. 1-115CA-1, for the UC-61 and UC-61A, 30 July 43, revised 30 May 44. I have also not found it in my Warner engine manuals, nor in Chalkie Stobbart’s Warner engine advice. I know I have seen something on oil pump priming somewhere – maybe it was in something published on this forum, or from Russell Williams’ site. Anyway, JP, if you can find the wording and relay it to me exactly, or refer me to where you know it is written down, or let me know the manuals that have the description if my manuals are not quite the right ones, I would be most grateful. Re: Warner Oil Change
'The Fairchild drawing for the Warner 145 engine installation on the 24-C8C model shows the oil line to the pump inlet connection with a raised section in the middle of the line to be just above the bottom of the oil tank, specifically to prevent draining the oil pump, and lose its prime, when draining the oil tank. Check your applicable Fairchild engine installation drawing as it may show a similar oil line configuration for the Warner 165 engine if you determine your oil pump to be above the bottom of your oil tank such that when you drain the oil tank, you will also drain the oil in the pump.

I will look for it and send it to you. The procedure is simply to partially disconnect the oil intake line at the pump allowing air to escape and oil to flow.On Mar 13, 2017, at 19:53, JP jp.lorie@yahoo.com [fairchildclub] wrote:

Thank you JP, but I’ll be danged if I can find that procedure in the manuals I have, which are the “Fairchild F-24W46 and F-24R46 Owners Manual”, which I presume is the latest for the 24, and the US AAF/NAVY manual, T.O.

To those of you who fly behind a Warner -- Is there anything I should know about the oil changing procedure for my Warner 165.
