Warner 165 Gasket question

Post by Joe Preston »

' Does anyone know the number of the gasket that goes between the carb and the airbox for the Warner 165?  I do not see it listed in the parts manuals. The other question is where can I find one?   Joe   '

'I opted to reassemble without using one, if you do want to use one you will have to cut one out yourself. It is an easy thing to do

Hello Joe,

I think the number is 7156, and I may have one.  I will check and get back to you.

It is listed in the complete engine drawing located at the end of the Pilots Handbook......very small print and difficult to read.  This is the gasket used between the carburetor and induction housing.  If you need the gasket used on the intake side of the carb, it perhaps may be found in the Fairchild manual.

JD

'The 2nd edition 165 parts catalog (1942  edition) I have shows 7156 as the gasket number. The price list that is stuck into the catalog (undated) has a price of .10
The price list also shows "Carburetor SS50-50A" on the same line.

The catalog cover shows that it is from: Paul Daily Air Goods, 1154 Halm Blvd., San Antonio. Texas 78216
I didn't think zip codes were introduced until the 60s, so that a bit of a puzzle.'

I think that is the one that goes on the top of the carb. I need the one that goes on the bottom. It goes between the bottom of the carb and the heat control valve/airbox.
Thanks,
Joe

'My book doesn’t show the gasket for the inlet side of the carb.

They do show the heat control valve, but no gasket shown there either.

Is your Warner on a Great Lakes? I was trying to buy a Warner powered GL from the San Diego Air & Space Museum many years ago. They took so long to respond that I found another one. The day after I got that one home they accepted my offer!

Probably just as well.

Yes, it is a 1930 Great Lakes. I bought one of the new dishpans and am fitting the cowl around it.

Which airplane do you now have?
