' In the "old days," most people had dial-up Internet connections. If somebody sent a 1 MB photo file, it could take hours to download thus tieing up the computer and phone line for that time. My first Internet connection (1995) used a 9600 baud modem! It was very annoying when someone sent some huge dumb photo without even shrinking its size. Now we have broadband connections where such a photo file is not such a problem.  Time to "upgrade" our list.

Dave, while this is still true to an extent with bandwidth restrictions on Hughesnet etc, the yahoo group photos go to a folder and are downloaded, if wanted, from there. That way they aren't really attached to the e-mail itself....

They embed a small thumbnail photo in the email. If you want to see it, you click on it and it takes you to the website where you can see the full picture
