'I can't remember who told me, but for sure you don't want the cowl of a 24W to be tight to the mount. Especially when cold. The cowl will need to have some movement for and aft even when the motor is warmed up. There is multiple stops on the cowl mounts that will stop the cowl from moving too far forward. I was told, as you can believe, the motor will grow in diameter as the overall temperature of the motor climbs. If it is too tight, you will start to see cracks in the cowl around the front opening.There is two things you can do to fix the cracks. Heli Arc the crack or wrap aluminum around the opening in the area of the crack and rivet it. This should reinforce the crack area. The information about how to do it is out there in the world.To answer your question, go fly around the patch once, land and shut the motor down. Hop out and check the tightness of the cowl to the mounts. If it doesn't move at all, it is too tight.After 43 years of down time, I will do much the same thing to my bird. Bob
