Wiring, Staples?

'How do we route electrical wiring in the wing?

It looks like the previous owner used staples to hold down the wire bundle to the wood spar. Or do we use current AC part 43 practices?

They also routed wire within 1 inch of the fuel tank under the felt tank holder. Current rules prohibit routing wiring that close.'

It's my understanding that no judging boy will deduct points for a
documented "safety of flight" change - could anyone verify this?

'It sound like someone did some creative wiring.  When I took my wings apart, one UC-61 & 1 pre-war civilian, both had the wiring bundle came out of the junction box and for the most part stayed on the back side of the rear spar all the way to the wing tip.  With the usual exceptions.  The fuel tank sending unit wiring went under the rear spar adjacent to the butt rib, then out along the anti-drag wire.  The landing light wiring ducked under the rear spar in the vicinity of the lift strut attach point.  All of the wiring was attached the "U" shaped  electrical staples.  Several areas were wrapped with friction tape.  I have some photos of the left UC-61 wing prior to it being taken apart.  It may show much of the original installation.  Any way, I wired the right wing in the same fashion as the left wing.  There is friction tape from the junction box to just outboard of the wing attach fitting on the spar, in the area of the flap extension stuff.  You may find some of my photos on the CD that Jamie put together, if you can't find it there, Let me know and I'll burn a CD with all of my older stuff and some new old stuff of both wings that I built.  The only thing that I did differently was the color of the staples that I used was brown or white, and I think Fairchild used black.  And I used a Grimes ST-1220 landing light and the factory used a ST-250.Both of my wing are 100% new wood, compression struts, drag/anti-drag wires, and aileron/flap hardware OE.  All nuts, bolts, washer and bushings are new.Bob775-482-9243
