I am one of the few individuals, that I know of, currently operating a Jake powered F24. George Leighton is really the only other person I know personally and he is in the process of finishing up an engine change to a 755B2. I have commented to the group on several occasions how much I enjoy this engine/airframe combination. It is a lot of fun. I know that the purists hate us, but that's OK. I'll fly circles around them any day of the week...then they'll hate us more. I also contacted Serv-Aero a short time ago to ask some questions. It sounded to me as though the days of the Jake and Continental STCs were pretty much over. I was trying to find out if the original rubber isolators for the engine mount could still be obtained. The answer was basically NO. Rumor was that a few folks were trying to have them custom manufactured, mosty without success. They were the same mounts used on the T-50 but even if there were some NOS around I doub't they
would be useable due to age. The isolators are also welded into the mount so changing or modifying them is rumored to be quite difficult. The old routine used to require sending the mount back to Serv-Aero if you wanted new isolators.
Anyway, I would never discourage anyone from trying to revive the Jake STC and convert their 24. I would however hope that those desiring to do so would do as much research as possible before taking the leap. The Jake conversion has some inherant compromises that some may not be willing to make. There are CG issues and a substantial loss of useful load. I personally find them acceptable because the performance increase and uniqueness of the a/c easily outweighs the negatives. I am happy to share my experience with anyone who wishes to know more and I am sure that George would be willing to as well.

With the problem of getting new parts for Warner engines; I am also considering switching to a Continental or Jacobs engine. I checked into the two STC's for these conversions. STC numbers SA4-42 and SA4-45 both belong to Serv-Aero Engineering, 37 Mortensen Ave.,Salinas, CA. 93905. Their phone number is 831-422-7866. I talked with them a few months back, and found their STC's include all the unique fittings required, including the motor mounts. These STC's are old, but they think they still have the tooling required to make those kits. They were not that eager to dig into the old tools and figure out a current cost, but I believe if there was enough interest shown by Faiirchild owners they would come up with a price for each STC. If you are contemplating an engine switch please give them a call. Maybe we can incourage them to price the STCs out, and we can save a few more of these birds.
Thanks

Does anyone have a Serv Aero Engine mount for sale that will allow for a Jacobs to be installed on a F24?
Thanks,
