Ranger Starter Polarity

Post by Frank »

'This may sound a naive question but I am not an Electrician!

I am wiring my starter which is on the engine but there are no indications which terminal is positive which is negative marked on the starter case.

Looking at the starter from the terminal end - ie. the rear - with the terminals at the top - which terminal is the positive one?

The photos I have of others are not distinct enough to eliminate all doubt and I would hate to get it wrong!

Many thanks

'Frank, on my starter, if I rotated it so the terminals were at the top, the
left terminal would be connected to the positive lead.

'Frank, on my Ranger, the starter is oriented with the terminals at the
bottom. And looking at it from the rear (terminal end) the positive battery
lead is connected to the right hand terminal. So if I was rotated my
starter so the terminals were at the top like you described, my positive
battery lead would be on the left terminal.
