"Orphan Aircraft"

'Here in UK, as do you guys, we have a group of older aircraft Known as 'Orphan Aircraft' that no longer have the support of a 'Design Authority'

A recent decision by the UK CAA has allowed an 'Orphan aircraft' on a CofA to be transfered to a 'Permit to fly'. This will allow more freedom in terms of maintenance and paperwork.

However there may be a question over my F24 UC61K Argus, not being a British aircraft, as to whether it can be considered 'Supported' by the FAA.

Can anybody tell me if 'Orphan' aircraft in the States are considered to be 'Supported' by the FAA or not and if so where I can find the regulation that addresses this situation. Did your 'Vintage category' ever get off the ground?

'Frank, don't forget, that under "permit to fly", you may have to pay taxes in order to fly abroad, and you'll get limited pass of 28 days to travel over foreign countries.

And moreover if one day you want to sell your plane to somebody from another country this may be a blocking situation!!

Avoid as much as you can the permit to fly!
...as soon as Fairchild 24 could be supported by todays Fairchild company owners??

That is the question!

Of course, the costs associated to CofA vs. Permit is to be considered too!

(whose friend, finally don't bought an english Auster under permit to fly, as they couldn't keep the british registration more than 28days in france!!...and should then registered it in France under our "collector" category, with every limitations due to this category (no pax flight, etc...).

A point well worth considering - I was aware of the Auster situation as the
guy selling it is based on a strip very close to mine.

I will go ahead with the research and see what happens and make a decision
later.
