PT-19/23/26 drawings in CD

Post by shergei2001 »

'Is there a CD available for PT-19/23/26 drawings available? I have all the microfilm rolls and am thinking about transfering them to CD format if this has not been done.

I did see a Fairchild drawing CD on eBay quite a while ago, but the seller wasn't very forthcoming about exactly what was on it, and the price as > $200 if I recall.

'Hi Pete,

I had 10, or so, film rolls digitized and have a pair of DVD's with about 2800 drawings. Also are some other items such as instructions for installing dzus fasteners and a brake manual. I have not sold any for some time but when I did, I asked for a $50.00 donation.

As I recall it cost $7-800. to have the rolls copied so I wanted to recoup some of my expense. I wonder if some one is trying to sell copies of my work on e-bay?

There are all levels of quality from modern Autocad quality to total black and unusable. I would guess it would be 10 % perfect and 10 % useless. The rest range in quality. We have had good luck with most of the ones we needed. As an example, we needed trim cables and brake cables. The drawing were near perfect.

Using the drawings takes a little practice to get the most from them. You will find references to other drawings when looking at assembles. On poor drawings you can use a photo program to enlarge the drawing and sometimes figure out a size of fastener part number.

I use program called irfanview. It is a free download and you might try it on photos you already have. The most useful tool is a negative switch. You can change the negative white on black drawings to positive black on white that I find much easier to read.

'Hi Craig,

The name is:

Stuart S. Evans
Scanning America, Inc.
1440 North 3rd Street
Lawrence, KS 66044

785-749-7471

Maybe we could trade. I don't have an AT21 (yet). What is your other project?

Check with Stuart on how they will label or number the drawings. I think I just had them numbered (perhaps by the slide number or roll number) and then I went through and changed the file name to the part number shown on the drawing. If they put the part number as the file name for each picture I believe it is pretty expensive.

When I received them the first thing I did was to make a couple backups before I started renaming them.

'Hi Jim,

Sure, I will work on getting them copied and ready to ship.

If you only need one or two drawings you will be happy with the $50.00 donatio.

Send me your mailing address. It might be a few days until I get good copies made. I was looking at them today. The total drawings number is 2639 at this time. Then there are other files with other info.

'Hi Gene: I'm pretty much the sole AT-21 guy in the world. I have the only know project in the world. I've had it in storage for a lot of years now and have finally gotten where I can start devoting some time and effort to rebuilding it. Once we can get a shop going, I plan to add enough capability to fabricate anything I need to for the rebuild.

I've also got all the microfilm for the Vultee P-66 and will be ordering the film for a couple of of other aircraft later this year to add to my interests. I know that dealing the with AT film, it is going to be a problem as there are over 10,000 drawings if my estimate is right. Interspersed within the film are the drawings for both prototypes to the AT, the XAT-13 and -14, so it will require a little detective work to split out the proper ones to the proper file sets. As to the Vultee drawings, fewer rolls, but at least one contains a significant amount of engineering material and reports, so fewer drawings there.

Swapping copies is not a problem at all Gene, although it will probably be after the first of the year before I can get the AT stuff scanned due to trying to get a number of other projects ( read that as financial vampires) completed and out of my way. Once those are killed off, then back to airplanes.

Craig C.

PS...Hope that all going to Oshkosh have a good and safe trip and enjoyable time. I hope that things will work out so that we can get up there in 2011.

What format are they in? The Canon microfilm viewer/scanner at my work that can save them as PDFs. I have been doing my viewing up to now on that device, I just wish it could do entire frame of the microfilm. Do your scans cover the entire frame?

'I have most of mine in jpeg files. They cover the entire individual picture. In most cases the drawings are smaller than the resulting file and can be increased in size to fit a 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper. Some of the original drawings were too large for the original photo. They can be pieced together and copied on a large format copy machine such as the ones at Kinko's.

Are you sure the Canon viewer can not be set to save in jpeg? Maybe a PDF file would be OK as long as you can zoom in on areas that are hard to read.

When I had them scanned Scan America offered the files in several different formats.

The files need to be on DVD's or you would have a real pile of CD's. It takes two DVD's to hold them. When working with them they need to be on a computer hard disk or it will take a lot of time to load each drawing. Perhaps one of the Western Digital USB drives. Then they are portable.

Gene

'Gene,
I would like a set of your DVDs. I will send you a check (if that is ok) to the address you gave Jan Servaites.

The Canon viewer options say PDF, JPG and TIFF, but our librarian says for some reason ours will only save in PDF. The viewer is connected to a networked computer so I can save them directly to my own network drive. With the PDF you can save as many images as you want in the same document (part number). They are saved as pages and you can change the size easily by changing the % size in the viewer window.
Thanks,
Pete Crawford
