I have a Temco built R46. I've had trouble for the longest time getting a nice three point landing. I end up in the flare with not much lift left and end up dropping it in, just a little, almost every time. I make the glide at 80 like the manual calls for, plus full flap. I had convinced myself it was the nature of the beast, and I'd get it right someday. Anyway I started to make some measurements and the like, to see if the control stick or elevator throw had been rigged wrong. I checked the Blueprints and noticed, for the first time, there were two control stick types made, one for the F24 with the Ranger, and one made for a Warner equipped Fairchild. Mine definitely is the design for the Warner model. Just real curious if anybody else has run across this little anomaly. Rumor has it they put the last couple of planes together with whatever was left in the parts bin. Don't know if I'll be looking for some control sticks in the future, might be making too much of this.

Try using half-flap and wheeling it on. I come in at 80 with about 1000
rpms. I get greasers more often than not. With full-flap, it always drops
in. The f24 has huge flaps, lotta drag there.
You'll save your tailwheel link attach bracket too.

'I had one of each stick in mine and am currently changing the 'Warner model stick'. That is when I can find a pipe bender for 1 1/8 tube with 4" radius - It's all gone metric over here.
Has anyone found a solution to measuring Drag Wire tensions other than Holloway Engineering's custom tensiometer?

Could your Argus have been mated with the Warner and converted sometime in its life?
That could be the reason for the Warner style sticks.
I am still searching for the Drag Wire answers.....

'Could well have been, JIm. but probably before it was issued to the military as the throttle and mixture controls are rods, not cables which, I believe,was a military requirement,and both the mag ground wires were in shielded conduits. Also there were some very rudimentry holes hacked in the fire wall - new one going on.
When I got it it was running out of nose up trim on finals - I thought nothing of it until I got into the paperwork which showed that the battery should be well aft down the fuselage. Mine, that is 2 x 12 volts in series, were under the rear seat! I have installed a new battery box in the correct place now.
Busy with wiring at present - more to it than meets the eye I have discovered!
