Motor Mounts
'I'm finally getting close to having an engine to install in my 24G. I still haven't got a definitive answer on the proper rubber to put between the engine and the motor mount. These have the mount that is integral with the fuselage frame. Upon removing the failed engine I found the rubber to be pieces cut out of tire sidewall. I have since found out from other sources that this may in fact be the right thing to put there. Can anyone with a similar 24 tell me what was used in their aircraft? Thanks.'

'Bill, The original engine installation washer for the Warner 145 on Fairchild 24's with integral engine mounts is: a 1.250"x1.250"x0.1875"thick washer with an 11/32" center hole. The washer is manufactured from brake lining material. Dimensions and material are as specified by Fairchild drawing number 48107. Drawing applicability is: C8C,C8E,24G,24J, and 24W9. 'Hello JP Lorie, No. Drawing 48107 is only applicable to Warner 145 powered F-24's with the integral style motor mount as specificaly listed on the drawing and as cited. Now, on the universal block thread, please know that new, reengineered, heavy style upper and lower attachment blocks are available from William Spriggs (805-657-2460). The new blocks are solid 4130 castings and require machining for the bolt holes, a simple job for a good machinist with good directions. Also know that there are archived threads dealing with the universal blocks on the Fairchild Club E-mail List in which Mr. Spriggs discusses the availability of the new attachment fittings. 'You may or may not find drawing 48107 in Jamies's CD as it contains certification drawings only(not sure which model) and is not inclusive of all drawings utilized in the manufacturing process. The construction drawing indices for each model(available from NASM) lists all the drawings used to construct the various models. I just checked the drawing index for the G model and drawing 48107 is listed as applicable.

'JP, This is a followup to my previous reply to you. If by chance you locate an original universal block for your project and decide to use it, test it for cracks and inspect it for bolt hole elongation in order to avoid a really bad day of flying. You may have purchased somebody's reject.

The construction drawing indices for each model(available from NASM) lists all the drawings used to construct the various models. I just checked the drawing index for the G model and drawing 48107 is listed as applicable.

Your post is timely. The NASM indexes are being turned topsy turby over the next two months. I lost the drawing index url. Please share the "current" url for the index. I spent three hours chasing the rabbit hole on Friday. I found new resources, however I came up empty on the url for the drawing indexes. There are many new avenues in the NASM and Smithsonian web sites and data bases.
