'On the Ranger powered planes the carb heat is taken from the left side of the engine. Cooling is done by the presure chamber on the right side of the engine. Make sure your chamber is tight with out any leakes. It might cut down on your cooling if there are any leaks. The presure of the air forces the air around the cylinders and baffels on the cylinders and out the left side and down the cut out of the bottom cowling.

The little door on the carb air maze duct allowes hot air from the engine to enter in before the carb and that is the carb heat on the Ranger. There is a push pull control that fastens to the door arm. The end of the cable is held in placed by a bug nut.

There is a mark for timing purposes. If you look on the front case just below the crank shaft, you will see a little arrow cast into that housing. That is what you set your O degree on to time the engine. The overhaul manual explains the timing procedure.

I also have a very good Ranger engine manual available from the FAICHILD CLUB. I think this manual explines thngs better that the "miltary" manual. It has a lots other good information in it as well as a timing wheel diagram. John Berendt Had these reprinted years ago. The club still has about 25 left. They are $10.00 a copy.
