'The F-24 I have been working on has a non-tapered axle and it
had a simple cast aluminum collar with a cross bolt to retain it
on the axle. The single remaining oregional one is full of cracks,
streached internaly and useless except as a pattern perhaps.
What is the general concensus on how to construct a replacement ?
Machine one from solid steel rod in lathe ? Use a big rod of 2024
aluminum? Aluminum sand casting ? (it COULDN'T be strong enough)
can't really immagine forgeing one in aluminum .....
I havn't had any luck finding seamless steel tube having an exact
1.500 inch ID AND a relatively thick wall ( like 1/4 inch)
My thought was to cut something out in lathe in steel or aluminum
and then weld on the threaded blocks which hold the wheel pants.
Any thoughts ?????
Tim'

'Cracks are easy to fix, Tim. Is there enough meat in the bore to sleeve it through it's length ?
