'Giday, Norb and Jack. The list has been quiet, that's all. Norb, I hope you're doing well
in the sunny South. We're freezing our butts off in Canada while thinking of you. If you get
to Sun n Fun, look us up and come over for a visit. We park our trailer in the "overflow
camping area" just across from the Campground Host's kiosk. Ask anyone for directions.
We do a big BBq on the Friday night every year and the Host knows exactly where we'll
be. If interested in attending, please let us know before the end of March. We head South
on April 8th.
On the building side of things, I'm now working on spar number three and will have the
spars mounted and wing construction started in May. The wings are box type and I'm
using Douglas Fir instead of Spruce for the spar caps. 24% heavier but 22% stronger,
so I just reduce the size a bit and I'm good to go. I just trial fitted a dummy set of spars
to check for wing folding clearance and all is good to go. Yes, the wings fold and those
parts have been a bugger to build. Lift struts have been impossible to find, so I'm using
NOS Norseman strut material and that may be the last avialable in North America. I
did find a neat process to remove minor surface rust which was inside and out
on the lift strut material. Electrolysis. Very simple process, environmentally friendly and
very effective. Need info....? Just ask .....it's easy and cheap to do. It'll take rust of any
steel part, inside and out from just about anything.
To see what a Fairchild 51 is like, get into Youtube and search for Fairchild 42. That plane
is the same size as mine, but seats 2 rows of 2 side by side. Mine is single pilot in front,
two singles side by side and a bench for two behind that. Useful weight is about 1,850 lbs.
( I guess I'll be bringing the beer and the BBQ and the food ).
I really had hoped that more on the list might want to get together at Sun n Fun but I don't
hear of much interest. It could be due to the growing trend to get away from large events in
favor of the smaller grass roots venues. There are many good ones out there.

'David, I will not be at Sun 'n Fun, but do plan to be at Oshkosh. It would
be fun to meet up with some Fairchild owners. Probably at the Type Club
area would work. Guess there would have to be a time set. Something like
10 am Wed or when ever. I had a good visit with John last year along with
Mike Kelly at eh Fairchild Club table.

'Hello Harry;
I'd be interested in the rudder for my '36 C8E if it's the early style, ie. the rudder horns are half moon shaped. Also require a pair of ailerons, fin fairing, tail wheel strut, and I'm sure some other items. Please let me know if you have and what you wish for them. Thank you, regards,
