Strut assembly

Post by Michael Danielle »

'I've researched the message files and can't find a source showing how
to assemble the shocks. My Great Lakes uses PT-19 shock dampers that
were shortened to accomodate the airframe. I recently removed the
struts because they were leaking and what I found inside just didn't
look right.

Anyone here that can help me find an illustration showing the correct
assembly of the struts? What is the packing supposed to look like?
Mine were just a stack of four "O" rings consisting of 1/4" dia BUNA
cord. The top of the packing nut has a shallow groove where it looks
like there should be a thin "O" ring but there wasn't anything there.

The upper cylinder guide was resting on a pin going through the
piston but it looks like the guide should be secured by this pin.

Anyway, the whole thing's a Rubics cube and I need to see what it's
supposed to look like and find a source for the packing.

Thanks,

Mike'
