'Dan, as I have studied the issue, I felt I could get at the plug with an
open end like you described. I have not tried it yet, but it certainly
looks possible. I have taken the nut off the top of the plug, but the right
angle connector hits the carb before it gets out enough to remove the
cigarette from the plug. It is possible, I guess that if the plug was
loosened a bit, it would wiggle enough and lean over to remove the cigarette
and elbow. If the cigarette was flexible, it would come out, but on my
engine it is ridged.

I pulled the plugs out late this afternoon and when I hit #4, I decided to
call it a day. So I have not given it a lot of study yet.

I sure thank you for your input and suggestions.

Ah, yes, the intake side #4 spark plug. Its my favorite. I have a
24 but I assume its the same situation on the PT.

My technique is to loosen the intercylinder baffle that the #4 plug
passes through by unscrewing its long retaining bolt (that fastens to
its paired exhaust-side baffle). That allows you to slide the baffle
outboard along the plug body and then access the plug flats with an
open end wrench inserted from below between the intake manifold
branches. There is just enough travel to turn the wrench to align
the wrench with the next flats offset the other way (flipped over).
Its agonizingly slow but it eventually gets the job done. Dont drop
the baffle when removing the plug.

I dont remember an issue with getting the elbow off. I cant remember
if I get that from below, too - its been at least a couple months
since replacing that plug.

loose, I can slide the nut back up the ignition wire. The cigarette
is hard porcelain, and one edge of the cigarette near the plug is
chipped off about 45 degrees.

'Bob, the cigarette is hard material on mine as you describe. There are two
nuts on the lead. One above the elbow and one at the plug. The flexible
lead is pushed thru the metal elbow and attached to the cigarette. The
first nut attaches the shield to the metal elbow. I will study the
cigarette more carefully and see if mine has a chipped off side to allow it
to make the corner.

'I use my David Clark H20-13s with the ENC turned off in my PT.  They have excellent passive noise canceling abilities.  Hit the web and look at the noise reduction specs on different models that you are interested in.  If you fly other aircraft, I recommend the ENC.  If it's just the PT, then get a high quality passive set.  Make sure it fits your head well..  Glasses and sunglasses cause gaps between your head and earcups and let noise in, minimizing the effectiveness of your headset, so check the fit there as well.  Taking extra care to choose a headset will minimize fatigue on long flights.

I have been told tht these universals must be changed out for beffier ones.Is this true?
I have researched and find only one AD (47 50 09)Which does not pertain to the universals.
Any info would be appreciate any imput on this matter
