Re: F-24 main gear shock question

'Lads, I could use a bit of guidance on the characteristics of the piston
in the F-24 main gear shock. If someone has one apart now ( I remember
Tom Downey did a while back) could someone please measure the diameter
of the piston and the size of the orifice that the fluid passes through? I'm
thinking that the orifice is just a two way hole where the fluid passes back and
forth at the same rate. Could be a number of holes in a circle, etc. ? Could you
confirm that please? I'm having to make up custom built shocks for my 51 project
and this info would be very helpful. Thanks.

I had mine apart a couple of weeks ago.There is no piston.There are
two discs about half an inch apart,with two cuts on the side.no holes
on mine.It was a reasonably tight fit in the cylinder.I think exact
measurements will be found on the fairchild cd?

'I have an F-24 parts book and see now that the piston pushes down on
the ...plunger... which looks to be like the two discs that you describe.
I just couldn't see the cuts on the side of the plunger. I'm building my
shocks from a pair of two way hydraulic cylinders and I'm thinking of
installing a restricted sized orifice in a line between the inlet and outlet
fittings on the outside of the ram tube, hence my question about the
size of the holes in the piston. Thanks Remko.
